Why I Should Never Say Never

Stardate 01-29-2009

As many of you know, I have ban on anything Jane Austen. Especially her crappy books. I've sworn solemn vows that I would never read any of them. Well, I am seriously thinking of temporarily lifting this ban so that I can read this

This book is a posthumous collaboration between Jane Austen, author of Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Persuasion, and other English literature classics, and Seth Grahame-Smith, author of How to Survive a Horror Movie and The Big Book of Porn. I can't think of a better team to bring us this updated masterpiece.

Here is how the book is described:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Complete with 20 illustrations in the style of C. E. Brock (the original illustrator of Pride and Prejudice), this insanely funny expanded edition will introduce Jane Austen's classic novel to new legions of fans.

I'm very curious to hear what all the Jane Austen fans have to say about this. I think its awesome and I can't wait to read it.

I can only imagine how it could end . . . does she end up with a Mr. Darcy or a zombie? This will end up being one of Jane Austen's best books, when does the 12 disc movie come out?

didn't believe you so I googled it. I want to read it. Why can't this be Feb?

I agree. This should be our read for Feb, as long as you promise that one day we will read The Choice.

Excellent thoughts. I can't wait to read it and find out what happens.

We'll see. But for now, you should change the Book Club Blog blog accordingly. I think Sabrena and Danny will be pleased.

Bad news, it doesn't come out until April. We'll have to hold off for a couple of months.

OK, well April's book is obviously slated...and Danny can pick March. So I guess that leaves Feb... um, are we back to the cheese book?

Darth - I am seriously so excited about this book. P&P being my fave book of all time; this should be an interesting twist.

Especially since the zombies are the bad guys... I bet Mr. Wickam IS the head of the zombies! And kitty runs off with the zombie leader and that's why Elizabeth is really soooo upset! Ohhh, think of the possibilities!

5004, are you joining us for this read?

I hope that Keira Knightly stars in the movie.

Sabrena Suite-Mangum: I was won over by the choice of The Choice, of course any Jane Austen Hybrid book is good for me.

Paige is a huge JA fan. I'll have to break it to her gently, and get back to you on how she feels about it! I want to hear all about it when you are done reading it.

Whitney-
I'd love to hear Page's reaction. I'll for sure post a review after I read it, though it won't be out for a couple of months.
